This series was created during Oxana Guryanova’s short stay in Georgia in May 2023. There, she met Tata in a dance club, where the young girl learns and performs traditional Georgian dances with great passion. Tata is 12 years old and, like her family - grandparents, parents, and two brothers - was born in Tbilisi. She has never traveled abroad. Currently in the eighth grade, she is interested in music and books. Her biggest dream is to master English so she can travel the world, explore new horizons, and eventually change her life.
The photographs show Tata both in the world of dance and within her everyday surroundings, offering a glimpse into the life of a girl standing at the threshold of adolescence. The project reflects the universal themes of growing up, family traditions, and the desire for new opportunities, while also portraying the cultural vibrancy of Georgia through its younger generation. Tata embodies both continuity and aspiration: rooted in the traditions of her homeland, yet full of dreams that extend far beyond its borders.
The work has been partially published in GEOlino.
